The Municipal Magazine Acknowledges Sewer Equipment

During the height of the Covid 19 crisis, the King County Water District needed to purchase a piece of heavy equipment for excavation purposes. Because of Covid restrictions and social distancing, the district had to re-think its municipal cleaning processes. Located in Washington, King County is the most populous one in the state and required a quality municipal cleaning system that could get the job done in a timely but efficient manner.

Tammy Rimes, an executive director of the National Cooperative Procurement Partners, or NCPP, and a guest columnist for The Municipal Magazine discusses the financing and partnership between the King County Water District, and the equipment supplier, Sewer Equipment.

Hydro Excavation Application

Ultimately, the water district municipality purchased a RAMVAC HX-12 hydro excavator through the Sourcewell contract with Sewer Equipment. This trucking sanitation system offers an array of resources. In fact, it is able to:

safely dig around sensitive utilities- like gas services, electrical services, waterlines, and fiber optics-without risking damage to the utility or danger to their operators. In hydro excavation, the equipment literally pressure washes the soil, vacuuming it up simultaneously as opposed to using mechanical means such as backhoes.

RAMVAC HX-12 Features

There are several features that make hydro excavator trucks greater than the competition. Firstly, it has a payload capacity of 2500 lbs greater than other similar trucks. In addition, the unit offers a 12-cubic-yard debris body and a boom reach of 18 to 23 feet with a 320º working radius. This particular system also has a variety of extra water features including a 1,300-gallon water capacity, a 10 GPM @ 2500 PSI pump, and a 400,000 BTU water heater all in an 80,000 BTU heated enclosure.
